Queenscliff's climate

Queenscliff has a mild maritime climate, moderated year-round by the waters of Port Phillip Bay and Bass Strait on three sides. Summers are warm rather than hot — typically in the low-to-mid 20s, with the sea breeze taking the edge off the hottest days — and winters are cool but rarely harsh, with daytime temperatures around 13–14°C. The one constant is the wind: this is the edge of Bass Strait, and a breeze of some kind is part of the town's character in every season.

Summer (December–February) is beach season and peak season: long warm days, the calm bay beaches at their best, and the town at its busiest over the school holidays. The water is warmest from January through March.

Autumn (March–May) is a local favourite — settled, still days, a quieter town and water still warm enough for a swim early on.

Winter (June–August) is quiet and moody: bracing walks along the cliffs, storm-watching over the Rip, and open fires in the historic hotels. Pack a windproof jacket.

Spring (September–November) brings mild walking weather and changeable skies, building to the Queenscliff Music Festival in late November, the biggest weekend of the year.
