Everything you need for a smooth visit to Queenscliff, in one place.

Visitor Information Centre

The Queenscliffe Visitor Information Centre is at 55 Hesse Street, in the heart of the main street, and is open daily from 9am to 5pm (closed Christmas Day). Staffed largely by knowledgeable local volunteers, it is the best first stop for maps, walking-trail brochures, accommodation help and tour bookings — see our visitor centre page for details.

Getting here and getting around

Queenscliff is about 90 minutes from Melbourne by car, half an hour from Geelong, 40 minutes from Sorrento on the car ferry, or train-and-bus via Geelong — full details on our getting here page. Once you arrive, leave the car parked: the main street, harbour, beaches, fort and railway station are all within a short, flat walk of each other. Street parking is on and around Hesse Street, with larger car parks at the harbour and ferry terminal; on busy summer days, arrive before mid-morning. Use the Queenscliff map to get your bearings.

When to visit

Queenscliff works year-round. Summer is beach season and the busiest time; autumn and spring are quieter with mild walking weather; winter is for storm-watching, open fires and empty beaches. The Queenscliff Music Festival in late November is the biggest weekend of the year — accommodation books out months ahead. Check the forecast on our weather page and browse what's on for events, markets and tours during your stay.

Good to know

Most shops and galleries on Hesse Street open daily in summer, with shorter hours midweek in winter — if a particular attraction matters to your plans, check its days before you travel. Fort Queenscliff is visited by guided tour only, and the Blues Train and dolphin swims should be booked ahead. Swimmers should stick to the bay beaches near town; the currents at the Rip are dangerous, and the ocean beach is for experienced surfers.
